Both the House and Senate have approved a bill that would delay the official digital TV conversion date from Feb 17 to June 12, 2009. President Obama, who requested the delay, has not yet signed the bill (as of Feb 10). But the bill makes the delay optional not mandatory, allowing stations to "throw the switch" any time between Feb 17 and June 12. Read More...

The clock is ticking. With the original digital conversion deadline approaching in just a few weeks, Congress is looking to delay the deadline to June 12th.
Last week the Senate passed the DTV Delay Act, only to watch a similar version get defeated this past Wednesday in the House. But because of congressional voting procedures, the measure is by no means dead. Read More...

Thanks to your efforts, Panasonic, Sharp and Toshiba have finally announced the launch of a 50-state recycling program by the end of January. But we can't claim victory just yet. Companies like Funai, Vizio, Thomson, Hitachi, JVC, Philips, and Sanyo still need to implement TV recycling programs before the digital conversion deadline on February 17. Read More...

A swarm of TV Zombies from the Electronics TakeBack Coalition visited Panasonic’s Secaucus, N.J. corporate headquarters today, to urge Panasonic to launch a national recycling program for old TVs. Panasonic refused to talk to the group, or to even receive the letter they were delivering. Read More...

The Government Accountability Office released a report exposing how practices by unscrupulous electronics recyclers result in toxic electronic waste being dumped in developing countries in Asia and Africa. The report finds that the US has inadequate laws to stop toxic e-waste from being exported to these countries, and that the EPA doesn't enforce the few laws that do exist. Read More...
