Vizio Tells Reporter They Will Only Offer Recycling Where States Require It

TakeBackMyTV supporters help force Vizio to respond to its ‘F’

After hundreds of letters and faxes hit the Vizio headquarters this week, Vizio has responded to its failing grade.

Many of you received an email earlier this week in which we discussed the huge impact that Vizio is having on the environment. If you didn’t see the email, here’s an excerpt:

“As the US's second largest seller of flat panel TVs in the first quarter of 2009, Vizio televisions are in households all over the country. This means that without a recycling program, millions of Vizio televisions may be disposed of irresponsibly when they break or wear out…Vizio can do better.”

Due in part to the letters and faxes demanding that Vizio assume its responsibility and institute a recycling program, the company said this to a trade journal: “As far as recycling, we support and comply [with] all states that have a recycling program.”

Compliance and action are not the same. The good news is that we have their attention. It’s up to you to keep the pressure on Vizio and demand that they do better. Let CEO William Wang know that Vizio's F grade on the TV Recycling Report Card is not enough and they should follow other TV companies’ lead, and offer a national takeback program: http://takebackmytv.com/TellVizio.
